Wood Worshipper

To an extent, this title seems suitable not only for the update, but for the struggling path I chose when I decided to take Woodworking as my only craft past 60. Due to today's teeny weeny update, let's fill in the space with my little crafting adventures so far. I'll split it up into titles so you don't get bored and wander off, cuz I know you will.

My Decision.

It all began with a stone. Okay so it really all began with a crystal, but you get the drift. Back in the days when the FFXI Brady Guide was what FFXIWiki is now, I decided it would be fun to level a craft. But there was so much choice! I looked at which each had to offer, oblivious as to which made the most money, lost the most money, or took the most time. No, back then my heart was set on what you could wear on your head. Specs? Nah, that's too geeky. SHADED Specs? That shit is so cash. Whoa hold the fuck on. What's this? A COOK'S HAT? /foam~

Cooking it is!

...Which was a very good choice, since back in the day when all the ingredients were (and still are) dirt cheap, it was the perfect craft to get used to how the system works. Mainly making juices for LS friends and mithkabobs for my little Level 60 DRK, I kept plugging away until I hit 70. Then I realized you had to actually work for the Guild Point items. Fuck. Sapping my cash away with ridiculous recipes, my cooking, money, dreams and sanity faded away at level 74, where it still stands today. After all, my DRK was en route to 75, and much more fun adventures awaited ahead.

It was only last year I got back into crafting. I thought "Cooking was fun, I'll try to get back into it." Was I wrong? Yes. The big money maker then was sushi. What does sushi use? Fish! How bad can fishing really be?

WELL. My fishing is level 4. I think it took me a jolly good week to get it there. It makes me itch at the fact it isn't a blue number, or hell even Level 0 would look nicer, but it can't be helped. So I did my research and looked up other subcrafts. One that stood out to me was Woodworking. "If I level Woodworking, I can use cooking to make sausages!"

I'm not kidding. That was my original excuse.

Working my Wood.

So off to Sandy! I must admit. When Positron, one of my old LS mate, showed me what he could do, HQing all those Elemental Staves with his name on it, and making Furniture out the ass, tossing them at me because he couldn't shove any more on AH, I was really interested. The guild was in Sandy, right on my doorstep was Carpenter's Landing, and a big fucking forest to log, too. I went for it. I worked my wood.

At the time, I was levelling RNG. I crafted all my arrows every few levels to match my RNG's levels. When I hit WW 55~, I stopped and got RNG to 75. Partly because I couldn't equip Demon Arrows until 60, partly because I took a break from FFXI for half a year, but mainly because I couldn't be arsed.

I'm a little subcraft.

So this year, after hopping over to Fairy and meeting a host of new people with many jobs, levels, and crafts, I decided to make my nation proud and take up WW again. But alas, like everything in FFXI, it's just not that easy. That's right, Woodworking was on hold again. Why? SUBCRAFTS. It all began when I tried to synth something that needed smithing. Well isn't that just dandy. Now that FFXIWiki existed in it's present glory, I looked up guides and recipes and yep, sure enough, even to get to 100 needed 2 subcrafts at AT LEAST level 57.

So it began, if you can recall my last few entries. I spent one weekend getting Smithing from 0-60. The guild was in Sandy, no problem. Some gil was lost but made swiftly again between 50-60 with Darksteel recipes. The next week, I spent Thursday-Sunday getting Alchemy from 0-60. Again, the guild was in Whitegate, right next to the AH. The little trips to Bastok were a nice break from the big city, and relaxing since I hardly ever go there. Not to mention Jusatsu prices = Mmm!

Working my ...boner?

Then along comes Mr. Bonecraft to piss on my little fun parade, ruin the party, and make me want to take crafting altogether and feed it to a very pissed of puerto rican.

Given, it only took me two days, since I think - by now, after getting 4 of these bastards to 60 or beyond - I have it down to a T, but no. Just no. I never want to touch Bonecraft again. Why? I'll fuckin' tell you why.

My Method (And loss of Sanity)

Firstly, I had to set my HP in Windy because that's where the guild was. So before I even started I had to do that Lure of the Wildcat quest to get a warp to Whitegate. Secondly, I had to mess around in Sandy [S] and Sandy to get those Trainee Gloves for the +1 Skill under level 60 (Much like Smithing's Trainee Hammer, only this quest wasn't as gay).

Right. Thirdly. The guild can just suck my giant penis. 350 gil for a bone chip? For one bone chip? No thanks. I know this is possibly the maximum price because people keep buying them out. But Jesus Christ they were stuck like this every day I checked. The fact things like Giant Femurs are 35,000 gil from the guild just makes me laugh too. How SE thinks getting 1.7k from Fafnir but selling you a bone for 35k is fair ...Nevermind.

Speaking of which, Bonecrafting uses the same fucking ingredients for EVERYTHING. Right, watch this. Off the top of my head, in the next 5 seconds, typos aside, I will type out everything I can remember using. Bone chips, Giant Femurs, Scorpion Shells, Scorpion Claws, Beetle Shells, Beetle Jaws, Demon Horns, Crab Shells and various Leathers. Am I missing something? NO. I'M NOT. Maybe, looking back now, things like distilled water, but heck, even THAT recipe used Giant Femurs D: (Gelatin, I forgot it's name. Okay, so I did have to look that up.)

Why am I complaining? Because it's so easy to mess up with so many similar ingredients. Especially when you run on 2 hours of sleep like me. I think, I could be wrong, but instead of using a Bone Chip + Beetle Jaw for Bone Arrowheads, I would, many a time, just hit enter too soon and end up the a Bone Hairpin. Or use two Beetle Jaws and get a Beetle Ring. I was about to pop a bitch.
It gets worse?!

It does! NOTHING STACKS. Well that's not true. Jaws, Horns and Chips do. (lol, which is pretty much half of everything you need to get to 60) Shells and claws and god forbidden FEMURS, though, god damn. Having to buy them all separately for 500g-2k from the AH one at a time, trail back to Windy for support, then Warp back to Whitegate for more did my skull in. About 50 warps in total I can safely say.

Yes, I could have farmed them, but with my amazing drop rate of 1 Femur an hour in Bubu and 5 Shell in 2 hours in Onzozo I think not. I coulda merited on Mamool and sold a stack of Wind Crystals for 1k faster than it would be to farm those non stackable shitty shit Mc shit items.

Then again, this is what pissed me off most:

You were unable to buy the Giant Femur for 2500 gil.
You were unable to buy the Giant Femur for 2500 gil.
You were unable to buy the Giant Femur for 2500 gil.
Fuck that.

The End Result?

Enough said. It wasn't fun. But god damn it feels nice to be back in Sandy. ; ; Even better, it feels nice to have Bone and Alchemy 60. The reason all my crafting SSs are of my favourite Mithra model is purely because I want something nice to look at when crafting. Rwar. Anyhoo, this opens up the path to 100 Woodworking, with only GP items and money holding me back!

Well, at least I've started on the latter! :D Gogo 1/4 items! But really wth @ the title, lol. /praise!

I also can't end this entry without mentioning the impact Ethy had on me throughout. My lil' friend on Bismark who started a character on Fairy. She's my GP buddy who pokes me at 4pm on the dot every day with the current Guild item needed. It's a great help and her constant /comforts and /cheers are what kept me going. Thanks Ethy!

Shoot to kill!

My luck has been strangely good this week. Maybe Altana is taking pity on me or something.

In any case, let's start off the entry with Ranger!

Goodbye, sodding AF feet, hello pimptown at last! Arrapago's dickhead of a Chariot finally put out 2 times in a row! Congrats to Usagikun who got the other pair, completing his Skadi feet also! This is a full time piece for me. STR and RAcc for WS, Acc for Kraken, and Movement+12% for lolcrafting and kiting if it's necessary. Truly and amazing piece. Thank you again ED!

Next up, Dynamis! I had to lot against another 4 people, but came out on top. Now my RNG's leg slot is 100% complete. These go with my RAcc build for certain HNM and stack well with Blood Gauntlets and Denali Jacket. Yay :D They also hide the ugly tops of Skadi Feet on Elvaan, but appear as short shorts on Mithra :Q!

RNG also got another new toy. It did amazing damage in Campaign, however I've had literally no time to merit any more. :( Boo!

Because it's similar to RNG, and I found this picture in this week's Fraps dump, I took E100's Sharpshot frame to Limbus. On the Apollyon with physical resistances, he managed to do this much damage to the kraken NM on floor 2, with Wind/Fire/Dark up + Flame Holder. Not bad, he even tanked it with Replicator and got off a few 250+ RAtt shots after I popped Overdrive. :3

Lastly, (Short entry huh?) Alchemy 60! Again this took 2-3 days but was dead easy due to the Alchemy guild being beautifully placed next to the Whitegate AH, and it selling lots of support for bronze pieces instead of gil, and lots of guild items that were always in stock. Beautiful.

Here's some funny things I also found while rummaging through this week's folder.

And that's all! Stay safe!

Brand New Heights

It's been a crazy week. So much new stuff has been happening and achievements have been flying out of the frypan and into the fire. The first and biggest achievement being I haven't left the house in 5 days! Go me, right? Anyway, on with the update, brace yourself!

Salvaaaaaaage! I was lucky enough to get the 35 Skadi legs piece by accident. That's right. When we did Zhoaloaloahmaloam, or however you spell it, the three people who were before me weren't there and/or skiving, so they dropped to me, since my RNG has no relic, and fatpants are well, fat. :( So after nabbing a 25 I handed them in. Voila~ The perfect kraken melee piece, and not a shabby Ranged/WS piece either! The store TP stacks with Rajas, Cobras, Brutal, and a bunch of other shit putting me at +25 Store TP on kraken Setup. That's 100% TP sooner than usual! :V Plus hot damn it looks nice with Denali!

If you remember my second last entry, and I quote "Fuck Einherjar", that kinda turned around for the best in the end. I've never seen such display of skill and teamwork since CoP with Fortei and Vela back when I was a little nub. 30-34 people each night. You could say we got lucky with bosses, but I say we didn't. 2 King Behemoths and a Khimaira, with lesser Einherjar like Eyes, Flans, Scorpions, and Flayers, but damn we did it. We did it good. Expect Odin's Chamber very very soon, but if worst comes to the worst, we all got our Mark of Einherjar, and can access any chamber we wish now. :) Goooo team~! (Currently sitting at 8250/15000 on Animator+1!)

What else have I been up to? Oh yeah, I managed to get 10/10 Merits AGAIN, putting me at 20 merits this week, but that wasn't enough, so I went out and got a new toy for RNG, too.

I'm thinking of 1 in each new JA, since Flashy Shot + Sidewinder is like a mini Eagle Eye Shot, every 20 mins, and Stealth for when I wanna get rid of some hate ;0 Also gonna put the other 3 into Snapshot for less delay, and 1 into Recycle to stack with Relic hat. Also, I want to lower Unlimited Shot to 5 min so it's on the same timer as Sharpshot, and stick the rest in Rapid Shot for even faster Ranged attacks. I think that'll work out quite nicely.

All my other categories are maxed out aside from Magic, inwhich I need 4 more Dark then maybe +8 Enfeebling, because AF+1 Body and Relic feet on DRK make a pretty nifty enfeebling setup for when I need to Sleep II some strays in exp and at events.

Reb's been levelling DNC. I am quite fond of the AF, I must say. She's just gotten over 60 and is 5/5. Congrats~! But I should really be congratulating her on another little adventure we went on...

She's been camping SK since forever and was 0/10 or 0/11 or something. In any case, I met up with her, then one by one more parties came to camp it during Aspid intervals. I think there were 4 separate parties by the time it popped, but I managed to get Aeyze to come help, as did Reb with her friend Artal, a really awesome RNG. Anyway, I claimed with Shadowbind as soon as wind weather popped, and with Reb on THF and Aeyze on RDM we 4-manned the shit out of it and won. Drop too! Congrats!

As payback, we decided to take a small trip down to check on Wyvernpoacher. Afterall, it was right next door and I was curious, especially since Reb was already on THF and wanted to try out her new knife.

Well, what do you know~

Looks like my debt was paid off in full! Now we both have to help Aeyze with Joytoy! npnp since it's already 100% guaranteed to drop! Ohoho. Big thanks to Aeyze Reb and of course Stac, for the 18 previous camps that we tried before it finally decided to show up again. Thank you all~

Before moving on, my friend Ethy came to Fairy for a while. She's into making new characters and starting from scratch over and over again, so now she can hang out with us when she gets bored on Bismark, haha. Nice to have you here!

Lastly, this weekend didn't exist for me. From Friday until, well, 30 mins ago, I decided to take a break from Woodworking on level my subs. I never thought...Smithing...could be this much fun...

0-60, 3 days. I'm nuts. I really am. Thanks to everyone who kept my spirits up, and special thanks to caffeine. NO THANKS TO WATERSDAY, THE GIANT FAG KEPT APPEARING WHEN I WOKE UP FROM NAPS AND I REALLY NEEDED IRON ORES. I also lost a lot of gil but holy shit holy shit it feels good to get it fkin over with. Next up, WW to 70! (loldemonarrowsthatIcanshotforfree)

And now, it's the time again...quote mania Dx! I wonder what escapades and lulz were had this week, hmmm~~?

Nice try Medi, nice try. Ain't gonna work on me, since I own the internet. But for now, have some obligatory Rebme works of art;

This was pretty funny. During Wyvernpoacher, we were trying to stay invisible around two BLM who were soloing and we stole their Gob pet. But they saw through our clever disguise!

That's all for this week. I'm pooped. D:! See you again!

Friday, 4 April 2008

Okay so, I've been lazy with a lot of things.

Actually no that's not 100% true, FFXI's DROP RATE has been lazy. We're still 0/198783432 on QQA's 35 and Bhaflau Boss's 25 Ares Body pieces in Salvage. Omega, finally, put out 2 Leg pieces at a time in Limbus, but alas, my lotting skills fail me. Plus Einherjar Wing 3 is still raping our asses. If only people turned up, we might stand a chance. Well, that and if only we didn't get Soulflayers every. Fucking. Time.

So I've just been sleeping with Fafnir, meriting, and Campaigning my way back to Holy Knight after the swap to Windurst and back again. I've also been adventuring with Aeyze, Rebme, and a few other LS people, helping them out on missions, low level NMs, and having a relaxing, fun past few weeks. So on with the screenies~!

The most beautiful thing you can witness, really. 10 full merits. I went for 4 MP because of lolelvaanDRK, and 4 HP due to PUP and RNG not using MP at all. 40 more MP also means on RNG I can use Intruder Earring to zap it into 40 HP, which is pretty much +80 free HP on RNG.

Now this next achievement was really a bigs surprise. Medi told me that recently in her Nyzul static, Denali Body went FFA. It's really the only thing I want from Nyzul, since it's mainly for looks and for RNG it's a mini Osode without the STR and with R.Att+9. Also, one of their DDs recently quit the game. Looking over the fact I had enough Assault Points to do about a month of Salvage, I asked their leader if I could join. The second run we did, it dropped and he told me to lot.

I'm gonna keep helping them out until the month or so is up, but Tussilo, the leader, and everyone is well aware of this and I'll even help them find a replacement when the time comes. Thanks a lot to you guys for this, feels like a big achievement, even if to you guys it is the "lol" piece that drops often.

Also LOL @ this Nyzul mob's name; Cumin Custard. No thanks. I would rather cum elsewhere tyvm.

As I mentioned before, me and Rebme did a lot of adventuring. From the new WoG missions, to new Beastmen areas,

...To getting lost and dancing on craglines...? Why, Reb, Why. It was a lot of fun, though. I really like how deep the characters personalities are. The animation and rigging team really has come a long was since Zilart. Plus whoever writes the stories know exactly what the fans want. (OMG HALVER WHEN HE'S YOUNGER OMG!)

Due to the lack of drops in this update, I wish to bring up a serious note:

Rest in peace, Yagudo Hat. 2005-2008.

What?! But...But you LIVE in that hat! You can't get rid of it! probably what you're asking yourself, if you know me well enough. But if you know me even better and helped me complete a little quest that I started a few years ago, you'll know it isn't gone, so to speak. Just upgraded!

Finally! The fight took 3 or 4 attempts to get down, and I think in the end we glitched it...but... Thank you so much Aeyze, Ayuki, Zidiane and Rianah for 5 manning this epic fight. The cutscenes were very enjoyable, and now my favourite hat has a story behind it and a lot more epic memories. It isn't THAT useful and I doubt I'll ever let Tsoo Haja see the light of day, but it's a personal and emotional achievement so thank you to all who helped!

Next up, Campaign. Let's also begin with how using a Black Mine temporary item not only gets you killed as it's technically AOE damage, but it de-aggros all the mobs fighting Fortifications, and makes them hit other campaign members (tl;dr: BLACK MINE = THE PERFECT MPK)! So without further ado~

Thanks to Aeyze also, for making me this awesome motivational poster. Now personal inside jokes such as BLACK MINE and FANG RUSH are consistent every single day! It works so well, until this happens:

Venture roll. Just proves I'm the best. /levels COR.

That's it for this week!
