Apocalypse: The Road to 95

Last night I headed off to Dynamis-Xarcabard to take on the Animated Scythe one more time. Well, ten more times to be exact, in order to upgrade my Apocalypse to level 95! But first, let's back up a little!

Trial 1045: 200x Catastrophe vs. Undead. The first enemy I engaged after getting my shiny new golden scythe was a Doomed in Abyssea-Attohwa. Shortly after realizing that a) These Abyssea mobs level up to to Very Tough, b) Catastrophe's drain effect won't work on Undead and c) Doomed are pretty darn nasty, I headed off to Abyssea-Tahrongi and proceeded to slay some Qutrubs. Because of their huge amounts of HP, meaning more Catastrophes per mob. Easy peasy, I didn't even have time to take a screenshot!

Trial 1046: 200x Catastrophe Killing Blow vs. Aquans. Killing blows? Now it gets tough. the Campaign spot around Vunkerl Inlet was perfect for fishing up crabs or pugils!

Little did I realize this would be the first of many "killing blow" trials that would really release my inner anger...

Trial 1854: 300x Catastrophe Killing Blow vs. Aquans. Up to 300 killing blows now, and I was starting to realize how tedious Catastrophe can be. The damage fluctuation was gigantic, with weaponskills hitting as hard as 2000+ damage, as low as 400 damage, or missing entirely. Gauging the correct time to kill off the enemy was quite a challenge. For this trial, I picked off lizards and raptors around the Outpost in Vollbow.

A great way to earn some exp and tabs from Fields of Valor, too!

Trial 1855: 300x Catastrophe Killing Blow vs. Birds. Birds, birds, birds. Where do birds fly? Of course, in Sky! I teleported up to Ru'Lude and camped near the shrine entrance, taking down a flurry of pink flamingos. It's been quite a while since I spent a good 6-7 hours killing another certain type of pink bird.

With this trial done, Apocalypse's real power started to unfold...

Onto the next and final "Killing Blow" trial, go!

Trial 2265: 400x Catastrophe Killing Blow vs. Beasts. A whopping 400 killing blows against beasts!? Luckily, the size of said beasts can range from giant to, well, bunny-sized. Uleguerand Range, right near the zone, hosts a number of rabbits and tigers, all ripe for slaying. However, nearby snoll magic aggro tended to slow things down a bit. By now, I had gotten the hang of when to kill off the enemy, despite Catastrophe still missing a ton. I had also began to acquaint myself with the Aftermath Haste effect, together with Haste from /WHM and while having Last Resort active...

...well, let's just say you wouldn't want to be stuck in a tiny room with me and this scythe.

Level 85! bring on the next trial!

Trial 2676: Apocalypse vs. Velosareon x5. Once again we pay a visit to Dynamis-Beaucidine, home of the fashion-challenged Elvaan Fomor, Velosareon, who had to get taught a lesson five more times. The hardest part about this trial was farming the pop items, which maybe dropped 2-3 per run if we got lucky!

In the end, it only took two runs. A big thank you goes out to Rebme, Sirenne, Yuuzuki, and some random Japanese BST who got us a 20 min time extension. Thanks!

Notice ever since the level 85 upgrade the Additional Effect: Blindness now just reads as "Blind"? Weird, huh?

Trial 3109: Apocalypse vs. Animated Scythe x10. Okay, time to go out with a bang. Defeating one of the hardest Animated NMs not once, not five, but ten times. Luckily, After two failed attempts at duo and trio, Rebme, Sirenne, Sagiaurex, Shiihaya and I headed out to Dynamis-Xarcabard one more time to put this thing in a coffin once and for all. A few deaths to self darkness skillchains later, and with a mere 20 mins to spare, it was finally over.

Let's throw in one more killing blow, just for the hell of it.

For now, my Apocalypse is at level 95. Whether it'll reach 99 or not, who knows!

For the time being, I am just incredibly content at owning one of the best weapons in FFXI. I can't thank everyone enough for all their help. Rest easy knowing that all your hard work has paid off and that yes, Catastrophe's accuracy is still shit.

Politics, Racism, and Cid - Bastok Rank 10!

Now that Abyssea and Voidwatch have calmed down and I am back into the game, I decided to do a little house cleaning...

W-wait a sec, this isn't my Mog House! Who shifted all my stuff?! Oh, yeah, that's right, I switched over to the mechanically-advanced, bustling capital of Bastok and challenged myself to get Rank 10 in one sitting, on DRK.

Challenge accepted.

The first few missions were just so shit. The 2-3 BCNM though, oh boy, remember when this was hard? This is the only pic I took, because it was over in...

...Yeah, that. Coulda' been faster too but I went to the toilet when I entered, haha. Fun fact, my toilet is like 2 steps away from my bedroom. The more you know.

Naji and Ayame's relationship was kinda funny. To be honest, I liked the pacing of the Galka/Hume story arcs and they were a nice break from the ELITE MUST DESTROY ALL ORCS Elvaan of San D'Oria and the incredibly annoying SUMMONING MAGIC IS SO SERIOUS YOU GUYS OH SHIT Tarutaru of Windurst.

Up to 5-1. Repose actually landed on that Ancient Warrior to the right. DRK/WHM pro sleeper. Fuck Ice Spikes though.

5-1: Easy Mode. Only having to farm all the bullshit before collecting Magicite once per character is bliss. OKAY, RISE AND SHINE, SHADOW LORD!

Oh ho ho man he is piii~ssed. Or half-asleep. Or drunk (...on rage!)

So I totally forgot the Shadow Lord has 2 forms and grabbed some granola shortly after taking this screenshot, only to come back to a log full of him spamming that one AOE WS and Jkun crying at 230 HP. HOW. EMBARRASSING.

Still, getting to the fuckin' BCNM was more of an asspain than actually doing it. OKAY, 4 more Ranks to go!

The Wiki guides for this (and apparently all the missions from now on) were all "Sneak pull so you only have to fight one mob! Make sure the other ones depop before you kill it! Depops can take up to 3 mins!" and here is me killing the first mob in like 3 hits. I mean really, we are all Superman now or something.

Zeid tells Jkun the story of the Talekeeper. I actually enjoyed this story as it was easy to understand, explained a bunch of stuff behind Raogrimm/the Shadow Lord, and because I am a simpleton.

9-1. Salt of the Earth. Someone told me this was hard as shit and I would need help. DRK/BLM told me that person is just a nublet. I got hit maybe 3 times and sleep never resisted once.

Here we are, end of the line. Fighting the master swordsman who taught me the ways of the Dark Knight himself, Zeid! It was a gruesome battle. Volker ran in and took hate right as Zeid popped his Shadows of Rage. Two Catastrophes took care of each before I stunned Ground Strike and grabbed hate back in time to cure Volker.

I would by lying if I said this BCNM wasn't the reason I wanted to get Bastok Rank 10. Time for the killing blow!

And down he goes! But of course, like every NPC-based BCNM in this game, I was apparently holding back. Sigh. Sure, believe what you want Zeid. Asshole.

One last (thank CHRIST) trip back to the top floor of the Metalworks and ja-jan~! Rank 10!

A brand new Atma!

100k gil, an NPC-storable item, and the ability to switch nations back to San D'oria! What a reward!

Also, challenge completed. Total time: 9 hours 48 mins. 99DRK. What's your record I wonder?

Thanks for reading, see you next time!

10th Anniversary Statistics

Bitches don't know 'bout my 15 GM calls. Infact, even I don't remember. I think one of them was being MPK'd by Brigandish Blade but lol, who the fuck cares about SKY drama, right guys?

Tiny entry today! Mainly skilling up all the things and working on getting Apocalypse to level 95, plus a whole bunch of other stuff! See you next time!

Chloris farming, or an orgy? You decide.

More "Nice Hat!" tells - keep them coming, guys! Even the Japanese think my Yagudo hat is "cool"!
